Leadership Bootcamp II

We had a conversation with Luís Silva, Head of Marketing & People Management, the team responsible for organizing the 2nd Leadership Bootcamp at FMQ. Luís explained everything about the event, as you can read below:

"The target audience of the Leadership Bootcamp consists of gamers who hold team management positions at FMQ.

The conceptualization began from an observation of the company's needs, focusing on these essential points:

  • Communication between teams and with teams
  • My role as a Leader
  • My role as a follower
  • The power of action I can have as a leader
  • Alignment with FMQ

From here, a program was designed to offer these perspectives, taking into account our organizational culture.

It all started with planning the space, which is the foundation of all events. The need was to find a spacious training venue, with round tables that would facilitate group communication. The room also needed to have carpeting so that our gamers could sit on the floor and, of course, a privileged view, because being in summer, it was important for them to feel close to the beach and the sea.

Based on these assumptions, a training plan was designed that could have advantageous outputs for both FMQ and the participants and trainers, with alignment created with all trainers in that direction – knowing the points they had to touch on and explore in order to be closer to our reality.

The morning started with a widely unknown methodology, but one that brings many advantages – Lego Serious Play, mediated by trainer Raquel Soares. Raquel worked on building the leadership process and communication with different teams, analysing the Lego constructions organized by the groups. Each group also focused on one of the four pillars of FMQ recruitment. Visualizing these issues through Lego pieces was considered an asset, involving all participants, and creating a good dynamic for the rest of the weekend.

In the afternoon, we moved on to a more focused methodology, where our CEO played an essential role.

Thus, 4 groups were formed, with members selected based on the DISC profile. Each group had a guide to help them conduct a questionnaire adapted to this specific day.

The important thing was for the group, through the instrument, to analyse management practices at FMQ in 2014 and 2018 and identify those that would be essential for the year 2020. The instrument was designed to facilitate discussion, constraint, and clarification. The guide's role was to situate the group, helping them create a presentation that had to be created using formal methods, exploring the creativity of other resources besides PowerPoint.

There were 6 hours of continuous work and many advantageous outputs, presented to our CEO Nuno Gonçalinho. A big thank you to our guides Ricardo Ribeiro, Phillip, Diana Silva, and Maria Silva.

Sunday morning's training was designed to take our leaders out of their comfort zone and consisted of public speaking techniques, based on components from classical theatre. The two-hour training led by Inês Garrido showed how the body, voice, and mind complement each other.

The training cycle closed with a testimony from Teresa Carreiro, Co-Founder of Critical Manufacturing, and a partner company of FMQ in Porto Tech Hub. The aim was to present a career of over 20 years in the technology field and how some leadership challenges had been overcome, in a session entitled My Leadership Experience.

It was an extremely rewarding event where participants showed what it means to be an FMQ leader: dedication, availability, curiosity, and dynamism!

We extend a very special thank you to the trainers:
